What else can we see along the tour?
▲There is so much to see on this tour – here are a few highlights:
Our Cape Ferry – Lake Palliser ride is packed with amazing things to see such as the spectacular Putangirua Pinnacles (featured in The Lord of the Rings), The North Island’s largest fur seal colony and the epic Cape Palliser Lighthouse. Climb all 253 steps to the top for sweeping views over Palliser Bay.
There is a rich Māori history on this coast Māori settled on the Palliser Bay Coast soon after Kupe visited the area in the 10th or 11th century. These settlements are some of the earliest Māori settlements in New Zealand.
Cape Palliser – Tora is a rugged and exhilarating day’s riding. We cross several pieces of private land to enjoy an exclusive cycling (and a bit of walking) adventure. Special permission to access this land is unique to this trip.
Riding up the Te Awaiti coast. An awesome day – native bush rides, wild and untouched coastline, river valley trails, sensational views makes this an unrivalled trail ride.

▲If you are taking our one day ride Lake Ferry to Cape Palliser we pick you up from Cape Palliser and return you to Martinborough by shuttle.
Our last day on both our 2 and 3 day tours ends with a lovely scenic ride from Tora to Martinborough on quiet gravel followed by tar sealed roads through to Martinborough.
What if we want to ride further?
▲There are several options to extend your tour by cycling further up the coast. We are happy to discuss some bespoke options for you.
Safety on the Palliser Cycle Tour
▲Though part of this tour is supported, we take safety very seriously at Green Jersey and the Cape Palliser to Tora section of our tours is always fully guided.
Our coast is remote and exposed to extremes of weather. Careful planning is required and independent riders should expect to be self-sufficient during these ridea. The South Coast is rough and we recommend travelling light. It is highly recommended to choose a supported tour. Green Jersey takes care of your safety, bag transfer, accommodation, and provisions.
Can I do this ride without Green Jersey
▲No, this route includes crossings though private land that Green Jersey has negotiated access through. It is not possible to do this ride without access across this land.
