Starting and finishing in Wellington, the tour takes you over the Remutaka Range and into quiet country roads, vineyard trails and remote coastlines that most visitors never reach.
Along the way, you’ll ride to Cape Palliser, encounter fur seals and dramatic landscapes, explore Martinborough’s renowned wine village, and follow the wild south coast back towards Wellington. Today’s ride heads south from Martinborough, with the option to start from Pirinoa for a shorter distance. The route takes you to Cape Palliser, passing through dramatic coastal landscapes with stops at the Putangirua Pinnacles, sites of early Māori history, and a New Zealand fur seal colony. After exploring the area, you’ll be shuttled back to Martinborough for the night.

A more relaxed day based around Martinborough, with flexible riding options through the vineyards and surrounding countryside. Distances can be tailored up to 50km depending on how far you’d like to go. In the evening, there’s the option to add a Wairarapa night sky experience before returning to your accommodation.

You’ll ride from Martinborough out to Ocean Beach, covering around 52km through quiet rural roads and coastal terrain. Accommodation is at Te Rakau Birding, or you can choose to return to Martinborough depending on your preference.

The day begins with an optional birdwatching experience before setting out on a 52km ride along the wild south coast towards Days Bay via Wainuiomata. From there, you can take the ferry back to Wellington or continue cycling for an additional stretch. The night is spent in Wellington.

Your final day includes the option of a short Wellington cycle tour before departure, giving you one last ride before the tour wraps up.
