Headwind Cycling
Spring 2020 combines two joys of Martinborough – wind and bicycles. From Martinborough we bring you the New Zealand National Headwind Cycling Championships.
On the first Sunday of Spring, when the wind rises to 10m/s we will be racing. Competitors will “enjoy” a 3 kilometre course from outside Te Kairanga Vineyard to Margrain Vineyard.
The race is open to everyone and anyone. We particularly welcome competitors and supporters of the Trust House North Island Team Series.
Join our Facebook Group to see when we are going to race. We will be able to give riders an indication of race day 3-5 days in advance. A decision will be made on the Friday before race day.
We are keeping it simple, there are just a few rules:
The Rulz
Entry fee $30 – Includes bicycle hire. $10 of the entry fee is a donation to development of a bike skills park in Martinborough.
Riders must wear a helmet, as required by NZ law. All NZ roads rules shall be obeyed. Roads are not closed for this event.
Riders must wear either fancy dress costume or a high-viz vest. Riders are more likely to win a prize if in fancy dress!
Riders may only ride an Avanti Metro 2, three speed bicycle supplied by the organisers.
Riders must agree to stay left and ride in single file unless passing another rider. The race is a time trial, there is no group start.
Riders must comply with the instructions of officials at all times. Riders are responsible for their own safety at all times and must be aware of other road users, officials and marshal will endeavour to manage risk.
We are here to have fun, officials decisions are final, no correspondence will be entered into. If you thought you won but race officials say you didn’t…you didn’t.
