The end is in sight for the Cross Creek safety upgrades. Work is progressing well, and this is the latest status for the rest of the project. It is subject to change. The next update is expected on Friday 9 October.
These works affect about 2km of the Remutaka Rail Trail, between Cross Creek Yards and the Cross Creek carpark. The rest of the trail is not covered by this notice. For background on the full route, see our Remutaka Cycle Trail guide and the trail map.
Weekends stay open
From now on, the track is open on weekends: from 4pm Friday through to 7am Monday. This weekend, 26–27 September, is open.
School holidays: open, with stop/go
From Monday 28 September to Friday 9 October the track stays open, but a section will be on stop/go between 7am and 4pm on weekdays. Weekends in that period remain fully open.
You may have to wait up to 30 minutes before being let through. Be prepared to dismount and walk your bike through the worksite.
After the school holidays
- Weekend 10–11 October: open
- Monday 12 to Friday 16 October: closed
- Weekend 17–18 October: open
- Monday 19 to Friday 23 October: closed, or stop/go during work hours (to be confirmed)
- Labour Weekend, 24–26 October: open
Those weekday closures are so the final works can be finished. If any more work is needed after that, the hope is it can run under stop/go during work hours rather than a full weekday closure.
Official opening
An official opening of the finished track is being planned for late October.
