Capital week of Mountains, Bikes and Brews - 7 Days

We are going to smash it! A week of shredding the trails in New Zealand’s Capital! New Zealands Mountainbike Capital

Each morning we will hit a different MTB park for unlimited shuttles and then spend the afternoon cruising some excellent XC paths, taking you into the remote and beautiful parts of the region.

Everynight we will finish with brews at a different brewery.

We will visit Makara MTB Park, Belmont MTB Park, Dirt Farm, Wainuiomata, Tunnel Gully, we will defeat the Karapoti Loop. Ride epic trails up to Mt Kaukau and over Hawkings Hill then down to Redrocks.

It is going to be epic! Max 10 bitches or bros. Get on.

Wallaceville house is an historic house set in Upper Hutt and offers very comfortable pre and post-ride accommodation. Best of all it is close to Brewtown. Excellent pre- and post-ride food and beverage!

The White Swan in Greytown is a classic New Zealand accomodation set in this chic little village, standard and superior accommodation options available.

The Martinborough Hotel – a local favouite since 1865! This is a very comfortable, historic accommodation with the award winning Union Square Bistro located downstairs, right on the Martinborough Square in the heart of the village.

Lake Ferry Hotel on the shores of Lake Onoke is another classic NZ stay with views for miles, perhaps the most beautiful sunset you will be lucky enough to enjoy. It sit alongside the modern and ultra comfortable Te Wheke Cabins.

Day 1
Upper Hutt to Greytown Village Heaven 60km

Start your tour where you intend to Finish! Depart Upper Hutt and Make your way to the top of the Hutt River Trail. You ride the Hutt River Trail for about 6 kilometres launching yourself onto the Remutaka Incline , This historic trail is approximately 24 kilometres of riding through scenic surrounds. Enjoy navigating 5 tunnels as you follow the Pakuratahi River to Summit Station, a great rest spot before descending to Cross Creek. Explore the Fell Locomotive Museum in Featherston and then it is on-on to Greytown, known for it’s restaurants and boutique shopping.

Day 2
Greytown to Martinborough Wine Village (18 or 60km)

After a morning coffee at one of many great cafes and a browse amongst the boutiques you can depart for Martinborough Wine Village. You have the option of cycling a short 18 kilometres so you can spend the afternoon riding the vines, or a 60+ kilometre ride via Stonehenge Aotearoa and Longbush.

Day 3
Martinborough to Lake Ferry Village (18 or 38km).

We Shuttle you to Pirinoa Village (25 kilometres) to start a short ride across a private Farm Track to the Cape Palliser Road, turn left (East and ride out to Cape Palliser enjoying a stop at the Putangirua Pinnacles, Ngawi Fishing Village, Matakitaki a Kupe seal colony and the Cape Palliser Lighthouse. Be shuttled back to Lake Ferry Hotel for the night.

Day 4
Wild South Coast - Orongorongo

We shuttle you to The East West Access Road at the base of Lake Wairarapa where you begin your ride to Orongorongo Station via the Wild South Coast. Aptly named this beautiful but rugged coastline is exposed directly to the Antarctic Southerly winds. Remote, you will feel warmth as you emerge at Orongorongo to a warm welcoming cottage.

Day 5
Orongorongo, Eastbourne, Petone and Brewtown

Ride around Baring head to Eastbourne Village, stop for

or Morning Tea or have a coffee at Days Bay, Wellingtons Playground. Continue around the Bays to Petone and then enjoy the Hutt River Trail, a cruisy ride back to Brewtown where a cold craft beer and a hearty feed await! Oh the stories you will tell!

How fit do I need to be?

Pretty fit. The ride is not technically challenging for most riders, but a reasonable level of fitness is required as you may ride 60km in a day.

Grade 1 - 4. What does that mean?

There is a wide range of surfaces to cover during this ride. There are some spots where sand or shallow river crossings makes it impossible to stay on your bike (Hence level 4) but the riding is not technical or unusually dangerous.
