We collect your group from anywhere in the North Island (South of Auckland) and make our way to the King Country and ride across to Taranaki around in a loop, back to the start.

This itinerary is an exploratory cycle tour.  It takes in the Forgotten World Highway and backroads to the Taranaki Coast the Back through to the King Country.

This Itinerary is set for four days riding (plus a travel day to the start and return) and includes a mixture of sealed and gravel roads. We only graze civilisation, so will be fully self-sufficient during the tour.

Overview

This trip uncovers the Forgotten World Highway. Explore the gorges and hills of central New Zealand and emerge onto the tops as we wind our way across to the West Coast before returning via Mt Damper Falls to our start point in Ohura.

Tremendous riding with lots of spectacular scenery.

We will collect your group from anywhere between Wellington and Auckland in the North Island and transport you to Taumaranui or Ohura, where we spend the night before starting the ride.

Ohura to Whangamomona is a quiet road, through rolling countryside. You will ride approximately 60km on a variety of surfaces and stay the night at the famous Whangamomona Hotel

We leave Whanhgamomona and ride across the saddles toward Stratford, but take a sneaky right turn onto Junction Road and enjoy some hilly sections through to Waitara and the Taranaki Coast.

Day 4 :
Kiwi Road

Back country Taranaki is something to behold. We depart our accommodation and head inland for the day. Kaka Road, Kiwi Road. The names give you an idea of what was…and is here!

We enjoy some valley rides, some hills and tunnels through Papa headlands.

Our road takes us from the West Coast back into the central North Island on quiet country Roads. A 20km (return distance) diversion takes us to our lunch spot at Damper Falls. We ride out and return for an evening in Taumaranui, or Ohura location depending where you started.

Depart early Friday Morning back to your home base.

Where does the trip start

This trip starts at your place, we will collect you from anywhere (Auckland or South) in the North Island. We then drive to Ohura – A tiny town in the King Country where we start riding.

How adventurous do riders need to be?

You need to be up for a good time and some challenging riding. It is not technically difficult, but it is quite remote and we know there are some hills along the way!

You will be fully supported by a van with trailer that has a kitchen and bathroom on board!

Does this itinerary involve mountainbiking?

No. We will be on backroads and gravel. It is safe and low traffic volume.

What if it rains?

Your rain coat will protect you 🙂
