At 9.30am we shuttle you to The East West Access Road at the base of Lake Wairarapa where you begin your ride to Orongorongo Station via the Wild South Coast. Aptly named this beautiful but rugged coastline is exposed directly to the Antarctic Southerly winds. Remote. Wild.

Be prepared for wind and sun, some short sections will need to be walked. Expect 40km of riding. With some opportunity to lengthen or shorten the ride.

We will meet you at Orongorongo Station at the end of this day and shuttle you back to your car or to Wellington to complete your adventure.

Haere ra! We hope you have enjoyed your adventure.

Breakfast, Lunch
How fit do I need to be?

Pretty fit. The ride is not technically challenging for most riders, but a reasonable level of fitness is required as you may ride 60km in a day.

Grade 1 - 4. What does that mean?

There is a wide range of surfaces to cover during this ride. There are some spots where sand or shallow river crossings makes it impossible to stay on your bike (Hence level 4) but the riding is not technical or unusually dangerous.

Can I bring my own bike?

Of course you can – we encourage people to ride their own bike if they are able to bring it.

What is the best bike type for this trail?

Any bike is suitable for this trail although we would recommend a bike with wide tyres for the Wild South Coast section. Tyres that are 2.1″ or larger are best.
Front suspension is helpful, although rigid forks are fine too, especially with wide tyres that can operate with lower pressure.

Do we have to unpack and repack our bags each day?

NO WAY! You will be staying at the same high level accommodation each night, unpack once and relax – except for the biking bit…

Who will help if we break down or have an accident?

Each group will have a GPS tracker or PLB. This allows for you to call for medical help in an emergency.

We will ensure that you have sufficient supplies for minor repairs like a puncture while you are on the trail. If you suffer a major issue we will have a plan to make sure we resolve it promptly.

We keep our bikes in Tip Top condition, but things can happen and we works as fast as we can to get them sorted.

What should we pack?

Your confirmation emails will include a gear list 🙂
