Cross Creek track update: openings, closures and stop/go

The end is in sight for the Cross Creek safety upgrades. Work is progressing well, and this is the latest status for the Remutaka Rail Trail through to late October. All of it is subject to change.

The work affects about 2km of the Remutaka Rail Trail, between Cross Creek Yards and the Cross Creek carpark. The rest of the trail is not covered by this notice. For background on the full Remutaka Cycle Trail, see our Remutaka Cycle Trail guide and the trail map.

When the track is open

From now on, the track is open on weekends: from 4pm Friday through to 7am Monday.

Next weekday closure

The track will be closed from 7am on Monday 21 September until 4pm on Friday 25 September. The next update is expected on Friday 25 September.

Looking ahead

  • Weekend 19–20 September: open
  • Monday 21 to Friday 25 September: closed
  • Weekend 26–27 September: open
  • School holidays, Monday 28 September to Friday 9 October: open, but stop/go during working hours on weekdays. Weekends remain open as usual. You may have to wait up to 30 minutes before being escorted through
  • Weekend 10–11 October: open
  • Monday 12 to Friday 16 October: closed
  • Weekend 17–18 October: open
  • Monday 19 to Friday 23 October: closed, or stop/go during work hours (to be confirmed)
  • Labour Weekend, 24–26 October: open

If any more work is needed after that, the hope is it can run under stop/go during work hours rather than a full weekday closure.

Please stay off the track when it is closed

Sticking to the closures keeps the job moving. Every time someone asks to come through, or pushes through while the track is closed, work has to stop until that person is off the track. That slows the whole programme down.
